How the range is made

Identify
The app reads the stamp from your photo and names the issue, the year and the value.

Match listings
It looks for current eBay listings of the same stamp, with photos and asking prices.

Show the range
When at least two listings in the same currency match, it shows the lowest and highest price. With fewer, you see the listings but no range.
Prices and listings are part of Premium. They are asking prices, so a stamp may sell for less or more.
What moves the price
- Condition
- Centring, intact perforations, original gum and the absence of thins, tears and repairs. Two copies of the same stamp can differ tenfold.
- Mint or used
- Unused stamps with full gum and no hinge mark (never hinged) usually fetch more; for some classics a clean, light cancellation is worth more than mint.
- Varieties
- Watermark, perforation and paper varieties can turn a common design into a scarce stamp. They are listed separately in the catalogs.
- Errors
- Inverted centres, missing colours and double prints are rare and collected for themselves. They need an expert certificate.
- Demand
- Popular countries and themes sell faster and closer to catalog than stamps few people collect.
Catalog value is not a price
Catalogs such as Scott, Michel and Stanley Gibbons print a value for each stamp in a stated condition. It is a reference used by dealers, not what a buyer will pay. Common stamps often sell for a fraction of catalog, while scarce stamps in fine condition can sell above it. Listings show what sellers ask today; neither number is an appraisal.
When to ask an expert
If the app or your own checks point to an early classic, an error, a rare variety or a stamp on its original cover, get an opinion before you sell. National expertising bodies issue certificates, for example the Philatelic Foundation in the US, the BPA Expertising in the UK and the BPP in Germany. A local stamp club or dealer is a good first stop.

Each listing is a different copy, in a different condition, from a different seller. The range shows the spread between the cheapest and the most expensive matching listing in one currency.
